The
Cyprus
Technology
Foundation
initiated
the
formation
of
the
Cyprus
Internet
Exchange
which
interconnects
three
of
the
Cyprus
Internet
Service
Providers.
Its
main
scope
is
to
allow
the
exchange
of
local
traffic
at
high
speeds,
thus
preventing
the
use
of
International
bandwidth.
Connected
to
CyIX
are
top-level
Cyprus
Internet
Service
Providers
that
own
international
lines
and
high-capacity
national
backbones.

So

the
networks
that
fulfill
the
requirements
for
a
connection
to
CyIX
and
have
signed
a
peering
agreement,
are
the
following: CYTANET LogosNet
and CyLink
The
even
distribution
of
Internet
services
among
the
above
mentioned
three
Internet
links
results
to
the
high
quality
of
offered
services
to
the
end
users
within
Cyprus.
How
It
works
By
utilising
the
latest
technology,
the
Cyprus
Technology
Foundation
will
offer
the
peering
and
administration
services
of
the CyIX
as
well
as
the
secretarial
support.
Regarding
the
operation
of
the
CyIX,
two
committees
will
have
the
responsibility:
1. The
Administrative
Committee
(responsible
for
the
general
policies
of CyIX).
The
operation
of
CyIX
will
be
implemented
via
bi-lateral
peering
agreements
between
the
members,
which
cover
issues
such
as:
costing,
connectivity
and
routing
policies
between
the
member
ISP's.
2. The
Technical
Committee
(responsible
for
the
day-to-day
operation,
configuration,
changes
to
the
structure,
connection
of
new
networks
etc.)
Furthermore,
it
was
agreed
a
common
paper
(by-laws)
regarding
the
general
operation
and techical
management
of
the CyIX
node.
